2024 Hyundai Kona goes Electric, with more range and larger interior

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric's specifications have been revealed for the US market as the crossover now gets sharper looks, a roomier interior, and more range.

The 2024 version of the crossover EV is now bigger in all dimensions compared to the outgoing model. The new version is now 6.9 inches longer, extending its wheelbase by 2.4 inches.

However, this increase in size also lets it gain more space inside as its passenger and cargo space has increased.

New Interior

On the inside of the 2024 Hyundai Kona EV, it gets a more horizontal look that looks similar to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Specs | News) and Ioniq 6.

It also gets two 12.3-inch displays, with the first as its instrument cluster and the second as its infotainment system. The EV also receives over-the-air updates, a digital key system, and connected-car services. A heads-up display is also available for the EV.

For its seating, the Kona Electric gets what Hyundai calls a Curveless Bench Seat for the second row with a two-stage latch system for better reclining.

A bump in range

The changes don’t stop for the 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric which has a slightly bigger battery pack at 65.4 kWh. Hyundai states that the Kona EV has an estimated 304 miles (489 km) worth of range based on the  European WLTP cycle.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric also comes with fast charging, as the crossover can go from 10% to 80% in just 41 minutes.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is a front-wheel drive with a single electric motor. The electric crossover pushes out 215 PS and 255 Nm of torque.

Given the new size of the vehicle, don’t expect it to be too quick, but it can still make a 0 to 60-mph sprint in about seven seconds.

Like many other EVs, the Kona Electric also has a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that will output about 1.6 kW. It's enough juice to power specific power tools and be a backup energy source for your house during a power outage.

Next-generation driver-assist features

The 2024 Hyundai Kona EV now has Level 2 autonomous driving on the highway that lets the vehicle steer itself and use adaptive cruise control.

Aside from this, the electric crossover also gets an evasive-steering feature that works with blind-spot monitors. A remote parking feature is also available.

No word yet if Hyundai Motor Philippines will be bringing the 2024 Kona EV into the country, but it could be a great addition to complement the Ioniq 5 that's already present.

Do you think there an electric version of the Hyundai Kona will become a hit in the Philippines?
