Following our scoop yesterday on reservations for the all-new 2024 Toyota Wigo, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has announced its official launch date.
The carmaker said in a July 2023 press statement that the next-generation subcompact hatchback will make its Philippine debut on July 14, 2023 at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City, with the mall display lasting until July 16.
Meanwhile, retail sales will start on July 17, 2023, with reservations being officially accepted starting July 7, 2023.
“Since it was launched in the Philippines, the Wigo has received a lot of love from Filipinos, so we are very happy to introduce the All-New Toyota Wigo, which features a new look and improved performance,” said TMP first vice president for vehicle sales operations Danny Cruz.
Aside from the new styling, the Wigo now rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform shared with the Toyota Raize, Toyota Avanza, Toyota Veloz and the AC100 Toyota Vios.
As AutoFun Philippines exclusively reported, all variants of the new Wigo will be powered by a 1.0-liter, twin-cam, 12-valve inline-3 engine.
This powerplant will likely be the same one used in the Wigo’s siblings, the Daihatsu Ayla and the Perodua Axia. It produces 67 PS and 89 Nm of torque, which are coursed through either a 5-speed manual or the new Daihatsu Dual-Mode Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
In contrast, the Vietnamese-market Toyota Wigo, which is also left-hand drive, gets the 1.2-liter inline-3 from the Raize. This pumps out 88 PS and 113 Nm of torque.
Nonetheless, we found that the smaller motor is at least 2-to-6 km/l more efficient than the bigger engine.
TMP said the all-new Wigo will be available in three variants with the following prices:
J M/T – ₱609,000
E CVT – ₱684,000
G CVT – ₱729,000
The company said the hatchback’s full specifications will be released on its official website on July 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, TMP dealers told AutoFun Philippines that interested buyers may put down a reservation deposit of as little as ₱10,000 for the new Wigo. This amount is refundable and will be deducted from the vehicle’s price upon purchase.
