Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) concluded the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup (TGR GT Cup) Philippines at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.
The sim racing series' National Finals were livestreamed during the second leg of the Vios Cup. Racers in the top Sporting Class battled for a slot in Team Philippines for the TGR GT Cup 2023 Asia Finals.
The event had three tracks featuring three different cars. The first race had Trial Mountain as their designated course with the Toyota GR86.
The second race had Sardegna with a Rally Cross track featuring the Toyota GR Yaris RZ. Finally, the third race was in Mount Panorama, where the sim racers had to battle it out with the Toyota GR Supra.
Russel Reyes took the championship in the National Finals, showing consistency throughout all three races, where he won two out of three rounds.
He is also a veteran of the segment, as he represented Team Philippines in the 2022 TGR GT Cup.
Next up, we have Sporting Class newcomer Mathew Ang, who finished 2nd Overall in the Promotional Class last year and bagged 2nd Place in this year’s National Finals. His remarkable performance during the second race showcased his skill on the Sardegna rally course.
Completing team Philippines is veteran sim racer Luis Moreno, who finished in 3rd Place and is also the 2021 TGR GT Cup Philippines Champion. This year, he makes his comeback to the Team Philippines roster and his first time participating in the Asia Finals.
“We have a strong roster of racers this year,” shared TMP vice president for marketing services Elvin Luciano.
"Having watched Russel, Matthew, and Luis in the local and national rounds, we are confident that they will make us proud as Team Philippines," he added.
As the Sporting Class season winners, Reyes, Ang, and Moreno will represent the country at the TGR GT Cup 2023 Asia Finals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sept. 24, 2023.
Like the local National Finals, the event will be livestreamed for the whole world to see. It will be broadcast on the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Facebook page at 5 p.m.
Make us proud, Russel, Matthew and Luis!
