Hot off the heels of the 2024 Toyota Wigo launch, it looks like Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has one more model to bring into the country.
TMP seems to be eyeing the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross to complete its lineup of crossovers in the Philippine market. In terms of size and specifications, it will likely slot above the Toyota Raize and below the Toyota Corolla Cross.
This is according to multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the upcoming model, but requested anonymity for lack of authority to speak on the matter.
They told AutoFun Philippines that the Yaris Cross will enter the local market sometime in 2023. In addition, they said three variants will be available – two are gasoline models, while the third will be a hybrid.
As for pricing, our sources disclosed that the top-spec variant will be priced at around ₱1.5 million to take on the new wave of Chinese crossovers.
European or ASEAN version?
Regarding which version of the Yaris Cross we will get, it will be the one produced for the ASEAN market.
The Philippine version of the Toyota Yaris Cross will likely resemble the Cambodian market vehicle.
The non-hybrid model sports a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine that pushes out 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque, which is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Meanwhile, the hybrid version has a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor. Its combined output is around 111 PS and 121 Nm of torque, with an electric-only mode available for zero-emission driving.
For now, it's a waiting game to see what Toyota Motor Philippines will do, as reports have already indicated that a unit is already in the country undergoing testing.
Do you think TMP should bring in the new Toyota Yaris Cross?
