BYD Philippines president Toti Zara announced that the BYD ATTO 3 crossover electric vehicle (EV) will be launched locally at the start of the Philippine EV Summit on Oct. 19, 2023.
During a press conference attended by the Philippine motoring press at the Zhuhai International Circuit in Guangdong, China, Zara confirmed that the ATTO 3, one of the Chinese automaker's most popular global EV models, will officially become available.
No SRP has been stated, but Zara mentioned that BYD Philippines is eyeing an image price of about ₱2 million.
“The ATTO 3 that we will launch on October 19 will not be the last BYD model,” added Zara.
The BYD activity that the Philippine motoring media attended featured a test drive of the BYD Seal, a Tesla Model 3 contender, around the Zhuhai International Circuit.
Motoring media and guests from other BYD markets in the region also test-drove the updated BYD Dolphin hatchback and the smaller, newer and more affordable BYD Seagull.
BYD's former distributor initially sold the BYD ATTO 3 in late 2022.
Priced at ₱2,490,000, it was an indent order product, meaning customers who signified their intention to purchase one back then had to wait for the vehicles to arrive from China after a few months.
Under the previous distributor, the ATTO 3 had an option for a 50-kWh battery pack and a range of 320 km, using the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure or WLTP standard of EV range testing.
A second variant, which had a 60-kWh battery pack, gave the ATTO 3 a 420-km WLTP range. This was pegged at ₱2,798,000 late last year.
According to AC Motors marketing director Patrick Manigbas, BYD Philippines, under the Ayala group, intends to have a readily available supply of the BYD models that it will introduce in the country.
Doing so will allow the new distributor to lower the prices of the brand's EVs as volume commitments and subsidies from BYD China might come into play in determining the products' SRP.
Should we expect a significantly lower starting price for the BYD ATTO 3 once it is launched? Let's attend the Philippine EV Summit to find out!
