The Geely Boyue, sold here as the Proton X70, has entered its seventh year of its show lifecycle. To keep it competitive against more current rivals just like the Haval H6, a brand-new show is required.
According to a recent report out of China, Geely could be introducing a brand-new Boyue as soon as later this year, underpinned by the Volvo XC40’s CMA platform.
As such, the new generation Boyue will likely be the third model in Geely’s line-up to get the CMA platform, after the Xingyue and Xingyue L.
The report went on to elaborate that the all-new Boyue will receive various improvements, including powertrain and safety aspects.
The long-serving turbocharged 1.8-litre engine could make way for a newer Volvo-sourced Drive-E 2.0-litre unit, possibly lifted off the Xingyue L. In the Xingyue L, two power outputs are offered: 217 PS and 325 Nm, as well as 238 PS and 350 Nm.
The lower output version is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the more potent one gets an 8-speed torque converter unit.
What about the Proton X70?
The current era Proton X70 as it were started generation in Malaysia at the Tanjung Malim plant in late-2019, some time recently propelling in February 2020, fair some time recently MCO/CMCO wreaked devastation on the company’s projections.
