The popularity of sport utility vehicles in our time doesn’t only rely on attractive looks and capacity. People nowadays are mindful of the differences between brand models, and that goes the same with Isuzu mu-X. The mu-X is a seven-seater mid-size SUV that was introduced by its Japanese automaker Isuzu in 2013 as the successor of the Isuzu MU-7. According to Isuzu, its name mu-X stands for “Makes U Xcited”.
The 2022 Isuzu mu-X is available in five variants in the Philippines, and all of them are diesel-powered. The Isuzu mu-X RZ4E 4x2 LS Automatic Transmission base variant is priced at Php1,590,000 and is available in Onyx Black, Mercury Silver, and Splash White colors. Followed by the Isuzu mu-X RZ4E 4x2 LS-A Manual Transmission variant that is priced at Php1,770,000 and is available in Splash White.
The Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x2 LS-A Automatic Transmission variant is available at Php1,900,000 in Onyx Black, Mercury Silver, and Satin Pearl White colors, while the Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x2 LS-E Automatic Transmission variant is priced at 2,100,000, and is available in Satin Pearl White. The top-of-the-line variant, the Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x4 LS-E Automatic Transmission is available at Php2,450,000 in Marrakesh Brown color.
The 2022 mu-X measures 4,850 millimeters long, 1,870 millimeters wide, and 1,825 millimeters, on all variants. The wheelbase is 2,855 millimeters; it is a five-door SUV, that can accommodate seven full-grown adults.
There are two engine options for the 2022 Isuzu mu-X that powers its five variants. The 1.9-liter diesel-powered engine is available in Isuzu mu-X RZ4E 4x2 LS Automatic Transmission and Isuzu mu-X RZ4E 4x2 LS-A Manual Transmission variants. It produces 148 horsepower and 350-Newton meters of torque.
On the other hand, the 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel-powered engine is under the hood of its Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x2 LS-A Automatic Transmission, Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x2 LS-E Automatic Transmission, and Isuzu mu-X 3.0 4x4 LS-E Automatic Transmission variants. It produces a maximum of 187 horsepower and 450-Newton meters output.
The 2022 mu-X carries the same transmission as the outgoing version. A 6-speed manual transmission and 6-speed automatic transmission are available, depending on the variant.
Isuzu has truly stepped up the game in giving the mu-X a stunning exterior design. The front fascia features an air vent grille that Isuzu calls the “World Cross Flow Grille”, surrounded and topped with massive chrome details with the Isuzu badge on top. It also has the signature arrow-shaped DRLs, with the LED headlights and LED fog lights in a black eye-shaped housing below.
Heading over to the side of the mu-X, Isuzu does not disappoint either. It has an aggressive and strong character line that sweeps across from the front to the back, and there is also an accent line found down below, which complements the sloping shape of the car. Adding more appeal to the side profile of the mu-X is the shape of the rear corner window, which goes along with the slope of the roof and the chrome roof rail up above. When it comes to the rims and tires, Isuzu mu-X intends to impress with its 20-inch rims for its top two variants, while the lower gets an 18-inch.
At the rear, the mu-X features a clean-looking yet stylish finish, which sets itself apart from the usual SUV designs. The taillamps are embossed and aggressive-looking, which complements the minimalist middle portion. Up on top of the power tailgate is a small winglet, and under the door handle are the rear camera and sensors.
The materials used inside the cabin are premium-feeling. The dashboard is wrapped with soft leather trims, including the steering wheel, doors, and seats. The steering wheel comes with multi-function control buttons with a lot of chrome accents and has tilt and telescopic adjustment. Behind the steering wheel, the instrument cluster comes in an old-school gauge look with a digital center screen. At the center is a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The mu-X gets an eight-way power-adjustable seat for the driver and manually-adjustable seats for the passengers. All the seats from the first row up to the third row come in premium quality leather and comfort with bolstering and armrests. The doors are a combination of hard plastic and soft leather trims with cup holders.
A 300-liter space is provided at the back as cargo space and is expandable to 1,119 liters if the rear seats are folded flat. To illuminate the cargo area, Isuzu installed a light on the left wall beside a 12-volt outlet.
The all-new Isuzu mu-X’s safety and security features have improved to provide more assurance and assistance to its passengers. It comes with an anti-lock braking system, child safety locks, door ajar warning, driver airbag, front passenger airbag, front side airbag, rear passenger airbags, front and rear passenger seat belts, seat belt warning, day and night rearview mirror, hill-start assist, hill-descent assist, brake assist, traction control, engine check warning, vehicle stability control system, crash sensor, parking sensors, side-impact beams, rear camera, central locking, anti-theft device, anti-theft alarm, power door locks, brake override system, blind-spot monitoring system, manual speed limiter, automatic high beam, turn to assist, adaptive cruise control, and engine immobilizer.
