Owner Review: There are no Old Porsches, only New Owners - My 2008 Porsche Cayenne V6

Reasons why I chose this car

Porsche's handling is unparalleled to the other makes. A body of a SUV but handles itself very well with proper grips when needed.

User experience

• I have already done 180000km.
• My average fuel consumption is 17L/100km.

Pros of my car:

• Timeless looks
• Good handling
• Huge vehicle - plenty of space
• Good driver experience

Cons of my car:

• Drinks fuel like a camel
• Interior doesn't age gracefully
• Premature wear and damage to suspension parts
• Premature wear on mechanical parts (i.e. lock actuator)
• Electrical gremlins

Summary:

During MCO's full lockdown, being stuck at home, I decided it was a good time to fix all the little kinks with the car. I'm a pretty decent backyard mechanic. The car has been a daily driver and mostly neglected in terms of minor issues. Most of the repairs didn't require the procurement of expensive replacement parts. Instead I have them "fixed" and save some money. 

Did a valve cover gasket replacement (leaking oil due to bad installation by previous mechanic that worked on it), electrical water pump (disintegrated plastic parts), clean-up engine bay and resprayed the engine cover, all basic fluid changes, aircon cleaning, door lock actuators repair (doesn't latch correctly - common VAG car issue).

Steering lock actuator (replaced the ECU board with a modified one so that the problem of car not starting will never reoccur - this is a 2nd time fix), speakers foam side repair, interior leather seat clean, reupholstered the side panels and the roof panel, added star lights ala Rolls Royce to the panel, resprayed some small interior and exterior panels, re-insulate some wirings on the exterior properly (again bad work by mechanics) and fix some water ingress on some lamps.

Lastly

The star lights is quite a view at night :)
