What Powers the Isuzu mu-X?

The Isuzu mu-X is the “perfect SUV,” according to its manufacturer. It has the safest and most technologically advanced platform in the market. The mu-X has an Advanced Driver Assist System with passive and safety features to let you efficiently drive the large vehicle. Currently priced at Php 1.595 million for the RZ4E 4x2 LS AT, all the way up to Php 2.460 million for the top-of-the-line 3.0 4x4 LS-E AT, the mu-X has created a following and reputation that can already rival the Toyota Fortuner and the Mitsubishi Montero, as well as perhaps the Ford Everest.

Now, you might wonder what powers the mu-X under the hood. Well, the five variants of the mu-X are divided into two categories – those that run on the 1.9-liter RZ4E turbodiesel engine and those with the 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX.

The top-of-the-line mu-X, the 4x4 LS-E, the 4x2 LS-E, and the 4x2 LS-A all run with the larger displacement diesel engine. The 3.0L 4JJ3-TCX Blue Power is a turbocharged diesel mill that produces 190 ps and 450 Nm of torque, quite comparable to its competition. These three variants of the mu-X have their 3.0-liter engines paired with an automatic transmission.

The 4x2 LS-A, which has a manual transmission, and the base variant 4x2 LS, which has an automatic transmission, is powered by a 1.9L RZ4E turbocharged diesel engine that produces 150 ps and 350 Nm of torque. This is also comparable with the competition despite the lower power output versus its rivals. However, this shouldn't dampen your spirits because the RZ4E is more than enough for the mu-X role as a family hauler.

You can expect better fuel efficiency in the 1.9-liter engine, as common sense suggests, but you can also expect the 3.0-liter to fulfill your need for more power; it all depends on where and how you will be using your mu-X.
