MG Philippines celebrates 4th anniversary after breaching 20,000-unit mark

MG Philippines enters the last quarter of 2022 reaching a major milestone in its fourth year of operation.

The Covenant Car Company, Inc. (TCCCI), the official importer and distributor of MG locally, said in an October 2022 press statement that the Chinese marque sold 20,888 cars by the end of September 2022.

MG Philippines hit the 10,000-unit mark in the middle of 2021, which is three years after the brand started operations under TCCCI's stewardship in October 2018.

"This feat marks the exponential growth of the MG brand in the country and indicates the trust Filipino motorists have in MG Philippines and TCCCI," the company said.

MG Philippines president and CEO Albert Arcilla said the growing number of MG vehicles on the road shows how Filipinos have become more progressive-thinking and accepting of the value proposition that the brand offers.

"The brisk acceptance and market reception of MG over the past four years has fueled TCCCI's optimism to grow the MG brand at an even more accelerated pace," he said. "We are very happy to achieve great strides in ensuring that MG products and services continue to positively resonate with the local car buying public."

"TCCCI and MG Philippines share this achievement with our established 42-strong nationwide dealership network partners, our principals at SAIC Motor, Inc., bank partners, our colleagues in the media; and our growing, loyal, and happy MG clients," Arcilla added.

MG Philippines said this accomplishment is in line with the MG's “Mission 100” campaign. The brand aims to sell one million MGs in at least 100 locations worldwide by 2024, which is also the 100th anniversary of the MG marque.

MG was originally a British car brand that was renowned for its sports cars. Notable models include the TF, Midget, MGB and the MG F/MG TF.

After years of financial turmoil leading to the collapse of the MG Rover Group in 2005, the brand was sold to Chinese carmaker Nanjing Automobile. The latter was subsequently acquired by Chinese state-owned car manufacturer SAIC Motor Corp., Ltd. in 2007.

The MG Philippines lineup currently consists of six vehicles: the MG 6 Fastback Sedan, the ZS crossover and its turbocharged ZS T sibling, the RX5 SUV, the MG HS SUV and the MG 5 Sedan.
