If you're preparing to head out of town for the upcoming long weekend, you may want to avoid going through Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.
Ateneo de Manila University reminded motorists in an Oct. 26, 2022 Facebook post that there will be heavy traffic congestion in and around the campus for the Ateneo College Entrance Test (ACET).
The Jesuit university added that the gridlock will likely reach its peak at 6 to 7 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.
Katipunan Avenue is one of the major thoroughfares that leads to C-5, which is one of the main routes for commuters heading to the South Luzon Expressway. It is also used by motorists from the south to go to the North Luzon Expressway through the Mindanao Avenue exit.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Melissa Carunungan told AutoFun Philippines that the agency will not implement a rerouting plan or road closure for the ACET.
"The MMDA's traffic head is coordinating with the head guard of the Ateneo," she said.
"The MMDA regularly deploys six traffic personnel in Gate 3 of the Ateneo," Carunungan added. "During the ACET, we will deploy two additional enforcers in Gates 1 and 2 for a total of eight traffic personnel."
The ACET will be conducted at the Ateneo Grade School and Ateneo High School campuses, with two sessions for each day.
The morning session will be from 7 a.m. to 12 noon, while the afternoon session will be from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Ateneo's campus safety office said in an Oct. 24, 2022 bulletin that it is expecting around 7,400 examinees for this year's ACET.
Good luck to the examinees and to the drivers on Katipunan!
