The 2023 Manila International Auto Show is ready for April 13 to 16, new car brands set to launch

The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) is a fantastic event for manufacturers to strut their stuff and showcase the latest models they have available. 2022 marked the event's return after the initial wave of the pandemic. It proved to be a big success after a two-year hiatus.

For 2023, the event organizers announced that the auto show will be from April 13 to 16 and open to the public from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM. It will still be located at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Details about the show are still scarce. However, we can expect several new vehicle launches, previews, and unique displays to be available at the auto show. Test drives will also be present at the event, allowing customers to try out the automaker's latest and greatest products.

With the dates confirmed, we can expect that several brands such as perennial MIAS attendees Ford, Subaru, and Chevrolet will be present at this year’s MIAS, with probably new automakers making their debut in the local automotive market.

What new brands are coming?

Reports have indicated that at least two new brands will debut at MIAS 2023. Two have already been confirmed to be Great Wall Motors (GMW), while the other is Jetour, both Chinese brands.

GMW is set to bring in its crossover and SUV lineup of vehicles, but specific models have yet to be officially named. However, we suspect that the Haval H6, Haval Jolion, and the Poer pickup would be introduced in line with other ASEAN markets. The Ora Good Cat EV might also make a surprise appearance given it has already been launched in Thailand. GMW Philippines is under the management of Luxuriant Automotive Group, Inc. (LAGI), which already has at least 30 years of experience in the local automotive market.

Like its other fellow Chinese brand, Jetour’s launch information is scarce. As a sub-brand of Chery, you would think United Asia Automotive Group Inc., the Philippine distributor of Chery, will have a hand in this. Instead, Jetour will be handled by a different distributor.

The new brand will likely bring models such as the Jetour X70, X70 Plus, X90, and X95. Information on their localized specifications is yet to be available.

Another brand that could make its debut at the auto show is Omoda. It will reportedly bring in the Omoda 5 with a price tag somewhere in the ₱1.5 million range.

However, the brand has reported that it will officially begin operations in the Philippines by October 2023. So, it's still up in the air if Omoda Philippines will be able to take advantage of MIAS 2023 to introduce itself.
