No clutch pedal! Is the new 2023 Suzuki S-Presso AGS worth it?

The new variant answers the call of its fans and car buyers for a clutchless version of the small hatchback.

However, when the Japanese automaker released the automatic S-Presso, it also released the Suzuki Celerio. The latter has the same power output and, most importantly, an automatic variant already available, albeit at a higher price point.

So the question now is, is the Suzuki S-Presso AGS worth it or is it a case of too little, too late?

More than just a new transmission

Suzuki didn’t just slap the AGS automated manual into the S-Presso and call it a day.

The Japanese automaker gave the small hatchback a few substantial upgrades, such as a new infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

More creature comfort features include power side-view mirrors, hands-free Bluetooth controls, traction control and reverse sensors. These are significant improvements to the small hatchback, making it more convenient and safer to use.

It is important to remember that despite being sourced from India, these Philippine spec S-Pressos are far safer as they carry more safety features.

A new, more fuel-efficient engine

Under the hood, the Suzuki S-Presso AGS has a new K10C inline-3 gasoline engine.

It has the same output as its old K10B engine, but comes with a start-stop system for added fuel efficiency.

It still produces 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque, which is mated to the new 5-speed AGS transmission. One thing to note is that the new S-Presso doesn’t have a "Park" gear, so you must use the handbrake whenever you park the car.

The fuel tank remains the same at 27 liters of capacity.

So is the S-Presso AGS worth it?

If you are after an entry-level automatic vehicle from Suzuki, then you can’t go wrong with the S-Presso, as it ticks the right boxes for those looking for a decent car for their point A to point B commute.

It retains what made it a hit when it first launched – an affordable price point, fuel efficiency and carefully chosen features that many will appreciate.

It is one of the most affordable automatic hatchbacks you can get in the Philippine market today. Most of the rivals of the S-Presso AGS are priced above the ₱660,000 mark, giving it an edge over its competitors.

Did you think that the S-Presso with the AGS is worth its new price point?
