Suzuki launched the latest version of the XL7 multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) in Indonesia on June 15, 2023.
Similar to the Ertiga Hybrid, the XL7 Hybrid features a mild-hybrid powertrain that uses a 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine.
This is connected to an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) that replaces the alternator and charges the battery. It also doubles as an electric motor that provides assistance to the vehicle when accelerating from a standing start.
Meanwhile, the battery pack is in charge of supplying power to the ISG and other electrical components of the vehicle. It likewise stores electrical energy generated by the ISG and provides regenerative braking for added fuel efficiency.
The powertrain's total output is 105 PS and 138 Nm of torque, coursed through either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. The XL7 Hybrid also has engine stop-start as standard.
The XL7 Hybrid directly takes on the Honda BR-V and the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross by offering 200 mm of ground clearance, which is 20 mm more than the Ertiga Hybrid.
The Indonesian-market model gets matte-black fender trim, a more rugged front bumper, roof rails and two-tone paint in the top-spec Alpha model that is complemented by the gloss-black, 16-inch alloy wheels.
Other changes to the XL7 Hybrid include a new tailgate garnish, automatic retractable side mirrors and a new front grill.
Inside, the XL7 Hybrid features a two-tone, gray-and-black fabric interior with black woodgrain inserts.
The MPV also comes with a new E-Mirror Touchscreen that not only displays the rear-view camera in a panoramic format, but can also serve as a display for the integrated dash camera.
New convenience features include cruise control and Hill Hold Control. Meanwhile, standard safety equipment are dual front airbags, ISOFIX anchors and stability control, which remains behind rivals like the Honda BR-V VX with the Honda SENSING active-safety suite.
Suzuki Auto Philippines is mulling over bringing in the XL7 Hybrid, following the launch of the Ertiga Hybrid locally on January 2023.
The Ertiga Hybrid remains to be the sole electrified MPV in its class and is the cheapest hybrid vehicle in the country. Prices start at ₱954,000.
