Take it from me – having a major sponsor is a huge help when trying to run a national racing series.
These awesome events often have huge overhead costs that can’t be recouped just from entry fees. In the case of Radical Cars Philippines, it has gotten a big boost after securing a three-year deal with one of the country’s oil firms.
The race organizers have said in a June 2023 press statement that SEAOIL Philippines, Inc. will remain the title partner and official fuel supplier for the Radical Challenge Philippines one-make series until 2025.
“The partnership with SEAOIL Philippines is a huge milestone as we continue to push the development of motorsports in the country,” said Radical Cars Philippines motorsports director and former formula car driver Marlon Stockinger.
“Our goal is to be here long term, and SEAOIL shares that value as we continue to work together for the next three years, solidifying Radical Challenge Philippines as the stepping stone for racing drivers in the Philippines,” he added.
The SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines is a grid-racing series where all drivers compete using the Radical SR1.
The 490-kg SR1 features a carbon-steel space-frame chassis covered with a high-downforce fiberglass body. It is powered by a 1340cc, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine producing 185 PS that is mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox.
The open-top racer also features a Quaife limited-slip differential, fully adjustable Nik-link suspension, a dash-mounted brake-bias adjuster, and carbon-composite side mirrors.
The 2023 season of the SEAOIL Radical Challenge Philippines will have ten cars piloted by rookies, gentleman drivers, and full-fledged professionals. It is now accredited as a national racing event by the Automobile Association of the Philippines.
As before, all participants will be required to use SEAOIL 97 Extreme, the brand’s highest-octane fuel.
“We are thrilled to return as the title sponsor of Radical Challenge Philippines for 2023. SEAOIL’s world-class Extreme 97 Octane fuel will once again power the fastest racing series in the country,” said SEAOIL Philippines Inc. head of B2C segment marketing, Edward Cruz.
“We will continue providing the same brand of ‘Alagang SEAOIL’ on the track, as we have been giving to every Filipino motorist who fills up in our stations,” he added. “This exciting partnership with Radical exemplifies SEAOIL’s commitment to championing Philippine motorsports and fostering a culture of high-performance excellence.”
Radical Cars Philippines said five events have been lined up for this season.
These include three rounds at Clark International Speedway (CIS) and one round at the Batangas Racing Circuit, with the season-ender being a two-hour endurance race at CIS in November. Here’s the full calendar:
Round 1 – July 21 to 23, 2023 (Clark International Speedway)
Round 2 – September 22 to 24, 2023 (Batangas Racing Circuit)
Round 3 – October 27 to 29, 2023 (Clark International Speedway)
Round 4 – November 24, 2023 (Clark International Speedway)
Endurance – November 25, 2023 (Clark International Speedway)
Each round on the calendar follows a three-day format that consists of Free Practice on Friday, Qualifying, and Race 1 on Saturday, and Races 2 and 3 on Sunday.
Sprint races are 30 minutes from start to finish, while the new 2-Hour Endurance has been added for 2023, which will see multiple driver changes and pit stops.
