Chery Philippines has reached a new high for June as the Chinese automaker has surpassed its highest monthly record of 323 units sold, established in May 2023.
Despite total industry sales decreasing by 5% from May, the automaker avoided the downturn and grew by 18%, securing the 10th spot in total sales rankings for June.
Leading the brand’s sales success was the Chery Tiggo 5x; note that this is not yet even the pro hybrid variant, which is set to officially launch very soon alongside the Tiggo 7 Pro hybrid at the end of this month.
The Chery Tiggo 5x was able to get 247 units sold, enabling it to climb to the number two spot with a 26% market share in the subcompact SUV segment.
However, we could soon see sales increase for the Tiggo 5x crossover as the new Chery Tiggo 5x Pro is on the horizon, with a mild-hybrid version coming soon. As the brand’s most affordable hybrid model, it could take a piece of the lucrative hybrid market in the Philippines, taking away sales from its other Chinese and Japanese rivals.
Another sales driver for the automaker was the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro. While its growth was initially hampered by the shortage of the Luxury variant of the crossover, the initial deliveries of the Hybrid variant were able to claw back sales. This allowed the Tiggo 7 Pro to sell a total of 76 units, which represents a 4% growth compared to last May.
As for its total sales for the first half of 2023, Chery Philippines was able to sell a total of 1,668 units, which represents an 8% growth for its year-on-year sales.
These figures secured the automaker the 11th rank among car brands in the country with a 0.8% market share. The cumulative sales of the Tiggo 5X and Tiggo 8 PRO at 834 and 271 units contributed to Chery’s sales growth in the first six months of 2023.
“We are very pleased that more and more Filipinos are trusting the Chery brand. We are confident that this upward sales momentum will continue as we introduce the new Tiggo 5X PRO Comfort and Hybrid version this month”, UAAGI chairman Rommel Sytin said.
“Accordingly, Chery Auto Philippines’ good sales continue to attract new dealer investors, and we are excited to announce the new dealer outlets in key areas very soon,” Sytin added.
