The all-new 2024 Honda CR-V marks the introduction of two important technologies for the Japanese carmaker.
One is the return of the Honda hybrid-electric powertrain in the CR-V RS e:HEV. And the other is the official rollout of the app-based Honda CONNECT system.
Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) vice president Louie Soriano said at a press conference following the launch of the all-new CR-V that all variants will come with a free three-year Honda CONNECT subscription.
The Honda CONNECT system allows customers to communicate with their vehicle, check its status and even be notified of alerts with a smartphone.
It incorporates helpful features like:
Automatic Collision Detection – automatically calls for help to ensure timely assistance whenever required
Security Alarm Detection – sends an alert when the alarm is triggered by trespassers
Speed Alert – allows the owner to keep an eye on how their vehicle is being driven through a series of notifications if the speed limit is exceeded
Find My Car – helps avoid situations wherein the owner is having a difficult part locating their vehicle by sending a pin location to their mobile device
Geofencing Alert – notifies the owner if their car was taken beyond a set area limit
Emergency Calls – makes it easier to access emergency contacts through the app
Car Status – alerts the owner of anything that requires attention and doubles as the vehicle’s diagnostic support system. This feature can also remotely check the fuel level, battery, lock and airbag status.
Remote Vehicle Control – allows the owner to control various limited functions of their vehicle via the smartphone app. It includes Remote Engine Start & Stop, Remote Air Conditioner Control, Remote Lock & Unlock, and Remote Light Control
Service Reminder – automatically reminds the owner when maintenance is due and it can schedule an appointment with their nearest official service center right away
The Honda CONNECT system is similar to app-based systems from other carmakers like NissanConnect Services, FordPass and myTOYOTA Connect.
HCPI has been on a roll with introducing a bevy of safety and convenience technology in its models.
It was the first carmaker in the Philippines to introduce active-safety systems in the multi-purpose vehicle and subcompact sedan categories. The superb Honda SENSING suite is standard in the top-spec Honda BR-V VX and all variants of the recently updated Honda City.
HCPI also plans to roll out Honda CONNECT in more of its models, although the company remained mum on which cars will get it next.
“Eventually, we will be carrying it over to our other models,” former HCPI general manager for product planning Maiko Viar told AutoFun Philippines in an exclusive interview.
“We can’t disclose that kind of specific information for now, but it’s definitely part of the long-term strategy to be more connected to our customers,” she added.
