The Ford Ranger has proven to be a capable pickup truck in the global market and the Philippines.
But Ford thinks it can do better as it has made a specialized version of the vehicle that now comes with an electric motor.
The FG-P is a Ford Global Fleet Sales product built for defense and security companies, giving them better stealth capabilities when they need to creep to a destination.
Ford has given the FG-P an electric motor on the rear axle that can work independently from the internal combustion engine to power the vehicle.
Like other hybrid vehicles, the pickup truck is also available with a battery pack, which allows it to travel in electric vehicle mode for optimal silence.
To further enhance its stealth capabilities, Ford has also outfitted the vehicle with an interlock system that ensures that the engine will not start unless specifically told to do so by the driver.
Its range is still unknown as the "Blue Oval" brand has yet to release official specifications, so we don’t know how much power the electric motor produces and how big the battery pack is.
However, we know that the FG-P has a top speed of around 20 km/h while in EV mode, which can be adjusted to reach higher speeds depending on the needed application.
As for its range, the specialized Ranger can do about 2 to 30 km on a single charge, suitable for shorter missions.
For its blackout mode feature, Ford has also given the FG-P the ability to shut off the infotainment system manually and the instrument cluster, along with any other interior lights, to allow the vehicle to travel stealthily.
The mode also turns off all vehicle sound sources, such as the horn and alarm.
Ford has made the vehicle much tougher than its counterparts by giving it more durable suspension components.
While no official specifications were provided, we assume it will be better gear than what the Ranger Raptor offers.
The FG-P is also available with a loading panel on the roof and can be outfitted with other accessories, such as infrared lights and various other attachments needed for a covert mission.
The same engine options available to the standard lineup of Rangers are also available for the FG-P, meaning you can have it with either the 2.0-liter single-turbo or bi-turbo diesel engine, a 3.0 V6 diesel engine or a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline motor.
Ford Global Fleet Sales is already accepting inquiries from interested companies for the vehicle, but has yet to release an official price list.
