The Toyota FT-3e debuted at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show (JMS) on Oct. 25, 2023 as a new, edgy electric crossover.
The concept electric vehicle (EV) takes on the brand’s more futuristic and angular styling that it envisions for its next generation of EVs. Aside from this, it has wide light bars and a “floating” roof spoiler that gives it a similar look to its cousin, the bZ4X crossover.
The concept gets its name from the FT letters, which stand for “Future Toyota,” while the “3” indicates that it's an electric crossover.
That said, the concept comes with a flat roof line, pointing to generous interior space and considerable headroom. However, as this is a concept car, there are no cabin space figures available.
Despite this, interior photos of the vehicle revealed that the concept comes with a high-tech cabin with a total of seven screens, including the digital display cluster and infotainment system.
The FT-3e also has cameras in lieu of side mirrors that send their video feed to two screens mounted on the bottom of the A-pillars. A live rear-view monitor is also available inside.
Its dashboard also comes with a cutout for a heads-up display that has a navigation feature that shows you your destination, estimated time of arrival and the current speed of the EV.
As for other controls, it appears that Toyota has gone with capacitive buttons instead of physical ones for a more futuristic look.
The concept car does come with one party trick up its sleeve, as it has external side screens on the doors that can tell the driver and passengers the internal temperature of the cabin, the air quality and the battery’s current charge level.
It even comes with what we assume to be fingerprint sensors that take the form of small squares located on B- and C-pillars.
Like the bZ4X, the FT-3e comes with a charging port located on the left quarter panel rather than on the front fender.
