Bringing something different to the competitive MPV/AUV segment is the Okavango from Geely Philippines. This five or seven seater marks Geely’s third model and comes as bigger and more upscale compared to the rest of the line-up. But what really makes it different from the competition is its advanced mild hybrid system from Geely. The Okavango is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine and assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system. Together, the system generates 190hp and 300 Nm of torque. The hybrid motor is then mated to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission which sends power to only the front wheels.
Launch
The Geely Okavango was initially launched in China in June 2020 where it is known as the Haoyue. Here in the Philippines, the Okavango was launched in November of 2020 with two variants to choose from, the Comfort and Urban. Both variants come equipped with Geely’s hybrid system that’s composed of a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that is mated to a 48-volt hybrid system. A third variant would soon be added which is the Urban Plus which includes, ABD Matrix LED headlights along with a sunroof and higher quality materials. It has a starting price of Php ₱1,503,000 for the Comfort variant while the top-spec Urban Plus is priced at ₱1,765,000.
