Here in the Philippines, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport is one of the most popular 7-seater SUV’s on the market. As proof, it never fails to make the annual list of best-selling cars in the country. This can be attributed to the fact that the SUV is today’s modern version of what a family car should be. Well, at least here in the Philippines where lots of space is needed for family members and all kinds of stuff that they bring. That and an adequate ground clearance with a robust suspension that’s needed to tackle the metro streets or unpaved provincial roads. The Montero Sport has all those aforementioned traits and more as Mitsubishi makes sure that it keeps evolving.
Now on its third generation, the redesigned Montero Sport has a new front fascia. It showcases Mitsubishi's 'Dynamic Shield' grille, which serves as the benchmark of the brand's modern lineup. It continues to be powered by a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder DOHC 16V MIVEC Variable Geometry Turbocharged clean diesel power plant. It also comes with Mitsubishi's Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC), which is responsible for achieving its high power output, low fuel consumption, and low exhaust emissions. Transmission choices consist of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission and available with either a 4x4 or 4x2 driveline.
Launch
The third generation Mitsubishi Montero Sport was launched in the Philippines on January of 2016. This all-new model embodied a whole new approach with regards to overall design and performance. Most of all, it showcases Mitsubishi's 'Dynamic Shield' grille, which is the benchmark of the brand's modern lineup.
An updated Montero Sport was launched on October of 2019 in the Philippines, giving the popular selling SUV a host of new features and slight changes. One of the most notable being the new front fascia with the redesigned 'Dynamic Shield' grille. Other changes include new head lamps and fog lamp housing.
