The Toyota 86 is also a sports vehicle developed with a rear-wheel drive boxer engine configuration and a 2+2 seat configuration. This car was also first introduced in the Philippines in 2012. Despite having the characteristics of a sports car, the Toyota 86 focuses more on solid control and proper performance. This car also has a good safety device and a low point of gravity that makes it stable.
The Toyota 86 has long been hailed by petrol heads and purist alike as one of the best driver’s car on the road. Co-developed with fellow Japanese performance car manufacturer Subaru in 2012, Toyota 86 became the spiritual successor to the iconic 1983 Toyota AE86 made popular by the Japanese animation series Initial D in the mid 90s. Assembled alongside its twin sister the Subaru BRZ in Ota city of Gunma Prefecture Japan, they share nearly identical mechanical parts.
History
The Toyota 86 is a compact sports car Coupe that is the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru. This car is called the Toyota GT-86 in Europe, or the Scion FR-S in the United States, and is sold by Subaru as the Subaru BRZ. The car that uses a 2.0 liter Boxer engine and rear wheel drive (RWD) is inspired by the Corolla Levin and the Sprinter Trueno AE86 which is known as the Hachiroku. The Toyota 86 was officially introduced at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and went on sale in 2012.This car uses a 2.0-liter engine with a Boxer configuration codenamed Toyota 4U-GSE or Subaru FA20 code. The available transmissions are 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic. Despite being a sports car, the Toyota 86 focuses more on solid handling than great power, and it also has good safety gear. This car has a low point of gravity which makes it stable. The production version of the Toyota 86 then debuted in December 2012 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota-made sports car then made its Philippine-market debut on June 2012.
