Father’s Day is coming up, and if you still have no idea how to “cash in” on the hype, then we might have a suggestion or two.

We just received confirmation that Suzuki will unveil two new big bikes before the end of next week.

V-STROM 800DE

If you may recall, Suzuki just launched its dirt-oriented adventure bike, the V-STROM 1050DE, at the Makina Moto Show last April. Yet, if you are not ready to commit to a liter bike, how about its mid-sized sibling?

The soon-to-be-launched V-STROM 800DE is also off-road optimized like its big brother. It rides on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke-style wheels. The rear wheel has a 150mm wide tire for better grip and ride compliance. Both wheels feature aluminum rims laced with stainless steel spokes that absorb shock from irregular road surfaces well.

With a long 8.7-inch (220mm) front fork suspension stroke and 8.7-inch (220mm) rear wheel travel, the V-STROM 800DE has the most suspension travel ever available in the V-STROM stable. This setup also raises ground clearance to 8.75 inches (220mm) to enable it to roll over most obstacles.

The V-STROM 800DE, like the V-STROM 250 SX, does not have a V engine configuration. An all-new 776cc liquid-cooled parallel twin propels it.

GSX-8S

For the city boy who likes to ride on the fast lane, Suzuki offers the GSX-8S. From what we gathered, this all-new naked street fighter shares the same engine platform as the V-STROM 800DE, along with its many rider safety aids.

A 5-inch TFT LCD multifunction instrument panel provides the rider on-the-fly control over the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) suite of advanced electronic control systems that includes the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, the Suzuki Traction Control System, and Suzuki’s Bi-directional Quick Shift system.

The six-speed transmission features gear ratios that deliver exciting acceleration, whether shifting normally or using the standard-equipment Quick Shift system to enable you to work the gears without operating the clutch.

Dunlop’s new-generation Roadsport 2 radial tires (120/70ZR17 at the front and a wide 180/55ZR17 at the rear) are custom-engineered to perform optimally on the GSX-8S, providing excellent grip in dry or wet conditions, faster warm-up, and long tread life.
