The recent arrival of the much-anticipated SYM Jet X150 to local dealerships has brought nostalgia to most of us. A couple of decades ago, the Taiwanese dominated the Philippine scooter scene.
In a world of surplus 50 cc Dios and Jogs, the 2-stroke, 100cc SYM Jet 100 was king. However, another SYM scooter bearing the Jet badge has recently made its local debut, the SYM Jet RX 125.
Not to be overshadowed by its slightly bigger sibling, the Jet RX 125 also comes with the same aggressive, futuristic lines albeit in a more versatile package. This smaller Jet also sports an exposed handlebar but is purposely positioned to give the rider good leverage when navigating various road conditions.

Yes, ladies and gents, the Jet RX 125 is supposed to be an on-road, off-road scooter. This is according to SYM Global, at least. In other markets, it comes with knuckle guards. We will try to verify this with the guys at Mitsukoshi (the official distributor of SYM in the Philippines), as the units they have on display at dealerships have bare grips.
The Jet RX 125 is propelled by a 124.6 cc, air-cooled mill mated to a CVT, and it churns out 8.4 kW and 10.3 Nm. It features all-LED lighting and an LCD panel. While tachometers might not be necessary for CVT scooters, I like the digital rev counter on the Jet RX 125, and it adds to its sporty appeal.
Aside from a spacious under-seat compartment, the Jet RX 125 also has a flat floorboard that could serve as cargo space during grocery runs. Running on 12-inch rubbers, the Jet RX 125 is a nimble grocery-getter too. That and its tag price of ₱ 78,800 makes the SYM Jet RX 125 a more practical option than its big brother.
I really dig the Jet RX 125’s styling and off-road and on-road character. What say you?
