We heard through the grapevine that KYMCO Philippines is finally bringing in the AK 550 Premium.
Well, our friends from KYMCO indeed confirmed this, but as to the launch date, it is anyone’s guess.
If I have to make a fearless prediction, I’d say it will probably make its local debut during one of those big motorcycle exhibits that will be happening on March and April 2023.
What’s new?
The new AK 550 Premium features an innovative multi-positional electric windshield, an upgraded daytime running headlight and a single power button instead of the control knob found on the standard AK 550.
Inspired by piano keys, the new AK 550’s center console features functionality options that are glove-friendly and intuitive. These bigger buttons allow riders to control operations, such as the fuel tank cap, seat storage access, dashboard display settings and handlebar locks.
It also features a traction control system that prevents wheelspin on wet roads and uneven surfaces. Other new features include an electronic throttle, cruise control and two driving modes: Rain and Power.
In addition, the new AK 550 Premium is equipped with Anti-lock Intelligent Brake System (AIBS).
What’s AIBS?
AIBS is KYMCO’s version of cornering ABS.
As we all know, ABS helps the rider make emergency stops more effectively by preventing wheel lock during hard braking. This enables the tires to maintain traction to avoid skidding.
AIBS takes this to another level by incorporating a bank angle sensor to constantly regulate brake force applied on each wheel during cornering, when traction is already at its limit.
We can’t say anything certain yet on the tag price of the KYMCO AK 550 Premium, but we can expect it to be slightly more pricey that the current AK 550.
In any case, it is quite difficult to a price on safety. Wouldn’t you agree?
