The global market is slowly, but surely, shifting to more renewable modes of transportation and the Philippines, despite the challenges, is trying to catch up.
It would seem Vietnamese electric-vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast saw potential in the Philippine market as it is beginning to set up shop here.
I recently took notice of the VinFast Philippines Facebook page, where the company is listed as an electric vehicle AND motorcycle dealership.
VinFast offers technologically advanced e-scooters at ridiculously affordable prices.
For example, the VinFast Evo 200 is priced in Vietnam at 22 million VND or roughly around ₱46,000, as of press time. At that price, you get a range of 203 kilometers and a top speed of 70 km/h.
These are practically the same numbers you get from a conventional gas-powered scooter, only at a more competitive price.
Perfect for the penny-pincher
110cc to 125cc commuter scooters have an average range of 200 kilometers per full tank and, though they would run up to 80 to 90 km/h, their purchase price ranges from ₱69,000 to ₱90,000.
Add the current pump prices to the running cost and the VinFast Evo 200 becomes the more practical personal commuter.
Stylish and robust
The VinFast Evo 200 has elegant, neo-retro styling and comes in a wide range of solid colors.
This sophisticated commuter is quite robust, too. With a waterproof rating of IP67, the Vinfast Evo 200 could traverse flooded streets up to 500 mm in depth and can stay submerged for half an hour.
There’s also 22 liters of storage space under the seat and a flat floorboard, making it an ideal grocery-getter.
The Evo 200 comes with LFP battery technology that was developed by VinFast to ensure safe and stable battery operation. Fast-charging takes about 4 hours from zero to full.
VinFast has an impressive electric scooter line up and I hope they also make other models locally available along with the Evo 200.
At this price range, commuters and delivery riders alike will be enticed to shift to electric mobility.
What do you think about VinFast's prospects in the Philippines?
