If you’re among the buyers who missed out on the first batch of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, there’s some good news ahead.

“Considering the global demand, HCPI has plans of bringing in the second batch in the second quarter of this year,” Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) vice president Louie Soriano told AutoFun Philippines.

“Detailed timing and volume will be announced later,” he added.

HCPI originally brought in 40 units of the Type R that had been launched on January 2023. All 39 were sold out almost immediately, with HCPI keeping one Type R as a media test unit.

Although there is no official word yet on the number of units that will be imported this time around, reports indicate that it could reach at least 80 cars.

Huge demand

The Honda Civic Type R FL5 model is no longer being made in the Swindon plant in the United Kingdom, but in the brand’s Saitama factory in Japan. 

However, an ongoing global parts shortage is affecting Honda Cars' production power, leading to delivery delays for models like the Honda HR-V.

Despite being a limited-edition, high-performance model, the Type R remains a hot item in global markets.

Honda Cars Japan postponed accepting orders for it on January 2023 because of parts and production issues. There’s a four-year waiting list for the performance car in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Meanwhile, the first batch of Type Rs was subject to huge markups by Honda Cars Philippines dealers, which was covered extensively by AutoFun Philippines.

HCPI said it does not allow bidding wars and price-gouging, adding that buyers can report unscrupulous dealerships. Meanwhile, the Department of Trade and Industry said buyers can also report errant dealers to the agency.
