Toyota has designed a new concept vehicle dubbed the Toyota Baby Lunar Cruiser.
The concept car was shown off for the first time at the 50th anniversary of the Calty Design Research, the Japanese automaker’s American design outpost.
The concept car was designed “to conquer rugged terrain on Earth and beyond,” while borrowing some styling cues from the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40.
Exterior styling ready for space
At the front, the BLC has the word “TOYOTA” spelled out in bold letters, similar to the front grille of its Land Cruiser counterpart.
It also has an extensive windshield canopy that extends around the grille to give the driver and passengers optimal forward visibility when exploring parts unknown.
Spacious interior with great visibility
The Baby Lunar Cruiser has a futuristic interior with a digital dashboard with augmented reality capabilities.
There is no steering wheel here as the concept car utilizes dual joystick controls to move around its airless tires. It also has MOLLE panels and adjustable spaceframe seats for optimal comfort in space.
Technology is rich inside the BLC, as it has a full array of cameras and sensors to help you navigate alien terrain, a split tailgate to help you load and unload any scientific equipment you might need and an all-wheel-drive system with each wheel getting an electric motor.
The concept car was developed in partnership with the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency for a manned, pressurized craft capable of exploring the lunar surface.
The rover was also designed to travel over 10,000 km using fuel cell technology to quell any astronaut’s fears about range anxiety. There is no concrete timeline yet for the production of the Toyota Baby Lunar Cruiser, but we could see it in space in the future if everything goes well.
