Ford EcoSport vs Geely Coolray Comparison: What You Need to Know Before Buying

Test-driving a car for a living sure sounds like a lot of fun instead of moping around in a gloomy-drab corners of an empty room.

But excitement levels do churn up a notch especially when a person is onboard an avant-garde Geely Coolray

but maybe it's way better to keep a sharp eye on those grubby meat-hooks er, fingers of yours as they entangle themselves to ah, one Ford Ecosport’s blunt-sized joystick?

Well, Kool (Kool and the Gang) is cool but Coolray was way much cooler than the name (its name) implies.

Hold up, we do beg to differ because Ecosport was at it ( certified veteran crossover) long before this little upstart (Geely) arrive on the scene.

The following argument does sound a lot like two cars were talking aloud while between themselves were having a fit of bragging rights a mile high that can be comparable or should we say, might just even surpass those withering heights of the mighty Eiffel Tower of France in this regard but unfortunately, car’s can’t talk back with other cars, much less to themselves but in the animated movie, Cars, they sure do blabber, a lot. (Whew)

Therefore, what better way to clear up a muddled issue than to elaborate on specific key features between the two er, talking heads but we do mean Ford EcoSport and one Geely Coolray, and find out if one of these cars can outdo each other in terms of who has the coolest-cheeky items on board; the coolest safety specs, latest entertainment shtick, cabin space, etc. You name it.

EXTERIOR STYLING

Ford Eco Sport’s exterior features were the result of remolding a bunch of station wagon and hatchback configuration into a new ball of clay, so to speak which Ford have spectacularly done so in just a short nick of time.

Thus, Ford Eco Sport was Ford’s brainchild that had cornered the Latin American markets back in 2003.

The car’s squat-like and highly-truncated design were very much sought after in those days, coupled with its machismo rugged-grille fireworks upfront lending a somewhat lion’s rapaciousness in terms of performance.

But pitted against the Geely Coolray however, Eco Sport crumbles down a few notches as sleekier LED day-time running lights demolish the former’s rather boring upfront tigerish symmetry heavily borrowed no doubt, from Ford’s lineup of heavy-duty trucks.

The Geely Coolray possesses a heavily Euro-inspired design much in the league of luxury cars like the Volvo, Jaguar, Porsche, etc., while Eco Sport is an American-branded car typifying the Ford Motors heritage of rugged dynamism thus, a sleekier and much longer car like the Coolray at 4,330mm long, dares to lay claim to fame in terms of flaunting its chiseled lines and much-refined persona, especially when viewed from the side while Eco Sport’s broad and proudly straight forward features (at 4,325mm long) barely suppresses a yawn, especially those almost complimentary bulging wheel arches and deep side creases.

But the spectacle somehow gets even ironically better as you try to rivet a look at Ecosport’s cropped rear view (definitely chopped and screwed) with its tire compartment nailed at the back which for a small car, doesn’t quite look that good enough as opposed to Coolray’s sharper and slicker-angular LED tail lights (2022 Geely Coolray edition) that accentuates that aggressive-looking rear diffuser while those fiery quad pipes lend an octane-bursting impression as if Coolray’s about to take off like a rocket.

ENGINE SPECS

Duality in-car features seldom cross paths but when they do it would bound to raise an eyebrow or two as Eco Sport and Coolray surprisingly, both share the same lifeblood as both sips power from the same three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline mills.

The only slight difference between them was a boost in engine juice as a 123hp 1.0-liter EcoBoost power plant chained to a basic automatic transmission energizes the Eco Sport while the Coolray gets its steam from a brute 175hp 1.5-liter turbo engine anchored to a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) that comes paired with a gear stick while both cars harbor the same front-wheel-drive configuration although the former affords a much capacious fuel tank than the latter.

SUSPENSION SETUP

Neatly intriguing as yet again both cars have the same taste for a MacPherson struts suspension as both of them were stitched with this thingy up front while a semi-independent torsion beam was affixed at the rear of both cars.

However, among these two cars, the dashing eye candy is none other than the Coolray as it gets to sport 18-inch alloy wheels tacked up on a larger 215/55 R18 rubbers while Eco Sport dishes out a minuscule 17-inch alloy mug-wheel pinned on 205/50 R17 tires, just hard enough to keep the ball rolling, so to speak.

SAFETY FEATURE

Both of these sensible crossover SUVs sure do think a lot about their passenger’s welfare as both units come installed with the standard six airbags, anti-lock braking system, traction control, and electronic stability control as well as conventional disc brakes that are normal fixtures from both ranges.

However, the Coolray, yet again, has the sharpest edge boasting a rather cyclopean 360-degree camera mode with a blind-spot monitoring system while its auto-park assist comes in handy while parking in tight spots or bottlenecks.

LAST SAY

As the saying goes, you just can’t win them all, as one feature will likely outstrips the other competition in terms of superiority.

In looking out for the hottest deal, it's a golden rule of thumb to make the best judgment by simply weighing the known facts.

In the case of the Ford Eco Sport and the Geely Coolray, however, you’ll just have to poke around some more with each of the car’s specs charts and then figure out what your next move would be otherwise, talking aloud about it here will never do you any er, good.
