It isn't much, but Subaru said this is the all-new 2024 Impreza. The steeply raked rear windscreen also indicates that it will also be available in hatchback form.
The Japanese carmaker said its top-selling compact model, which takes on the Toyota Corolla Altis, Mazda3, and the Honda Civic, will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 2022.
Subaru remained mum on any changes to the drivetrain or suspension, but the next-generation Impreza may still use the Subaru Global Platform that the current model uses.
The present Impreza was first unveiled at the New York International Auto Show on March 2016 and is available as a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback.
It is powered by either 1.6-liter or 2.0-liter flat-4 engines mated to a 5-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). As with all Subarus, the Impreza features full-time all-wheel drive.
The Impreza also forms the basis of the WRX, which has a turbocharged 2.4-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve flat-4 pumping out 275 PS and 350 Nm of torque. This is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT.
The 2022 WRX debuted on August 2021 at the New York International Auto Show, featuring substantially different front and rear fascias from the regular Impreza.
Subaru said it may produce an even more powerful STI model in the next-generation Impreza, but it may feature a hybrid or fully electric powertrain.
