The Hyundai Accent has been a popular sedan in the Philippines for quite some time. It was a crowd favorite thanks to its fuel-efficient turbo diesel engine and the surprising amount of power it had inside.
However, now that the South Korean brand in the Philippines is under new leadership, its focus has shifted to crossovers, SUVs, and MPVs. The change in direction has removed the turbo diesel sedan from the automaker’s current lineup.
In other countries, the Hyundai Accent, also called the Verna, is doing quite well as Hyundai India has released teaser photos for its next generation.
While teasers don't reveal much aside from the gorgeous LED tail lights, its LED headlights, and its side profile, we can tell that it will look similar to the Hyundai Elantra.
The teasers reveal a stretched-out C-pillar indicating that the new Accent/ Verna will come with a more Sportback-oriented design similar to the MG 6 and the all-new Toyota Vios.
As for the front of the sedan, it wears a similar LED daytime running light to its siblings, the Stargazer and Staria. While shrouded in the shadows, we can tell that the new Accent will come with a similar angular grille to its sibling, the Elantra.
No interior photos are available for the new Hyundai sedan.
While the teaser images are significant, we suspect you are probably wondering if it will retain its fantastic turbo diesel engine.
The answer to this question still needs to be discovered. However, the automaker has stated that two engine options will be available for the Indian market. The first is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder 16-valve MPi gasoline engine mated to either an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) or a six-speed manual transmission.
Its other engine option is a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder 16-valve turbocharged GDi gasoline engine that is mated to either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual.
As for their respective power figures, the former produces 113 PS and 144 Nm, similar to what is available in the Stargazer and Creta, while the latter has 160 PS and 260 Nm of torque.
There is no announcement yet when Hyundai India will officially launch the sedan, but it is already open to bookings and is offering four trim options.
Should Hyundai Philippines bring the new Hyundai Accent to the local market even without a turbo diesel engine?
