FUN FACTS: 2024 Geely Coolray -- Is the Philippines getting this updated game-changer?

But Geely Philippines might not be done quite yet – the updated 2024 Geely Coolray (called the Geely Binyue Cool) was launched globally in 2022, with markets like Chile getting it on May 2023.

With the recently launched GAC GS3 Emzoom now the talk of the town among subcompact crossovers, Geely is likely not going to take this upstart sitting down. Although there’s no official word yet from the Chinese carmaker, the 2024 Coolray may just make its way to Philippine shores.

Here are some Fun Facts about this sharpened subcompact crossover.

All-new exterior

Although the 2024 Coolray retains the same platform as the previous model, it gets a totally new look.

Up front, the updated crossover gets larger and sharper LED headlights that extend further into the front fenders. These flank the familiar pentagonal Geely grill with red accents.

Down the side, the 2024 Coolray is the same as the older model because it retains the same doors and rear fenders. As such, sporty features like the kinked-up D-pillar and two-tone roof remain.

At the back, the tailgate spoiler is as large as ever for the sporty variants, while the look of the LED taillights has been changed to include an LED lightbar that spans the entire tailgate. The huge quad-exhaust tips and faux diffuser are likewise carried over.

Sleeker cabin

Inside the 2024 Coolray, many of the changes are on the dashboard.

A 10.25-inch screen displays the digital gauges, while the touchscreen infotainment system gets an enormous 12.3 inches of real estate. An array of climate-control switches are lined up underneath the thinner central air-conditioning vents.

The floating center console has been revamped substantially, now featuring a crystal-like gear selector, repositioned cupholders and a wireless charging pad.

Overall, the two-tone, black-and-red interior features a more mature look than the previous model.

More tech

The current-generation Geely Coolray has decent levels of equipment, but the tech has been expanded on the 2024 model.

The updated Coolray has things like rain-sensing wipers, a 540-degree surround-view camera and blind-spot detection, along with Geely’s automated parking assistant.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are still unavailable in other markets, but the 2024 Coolray still gets a Mirror Link feature.

Four cylinders

Perhaps the biggest news about the 2024 Coolray is under the hood.

Gone is the very punchy (and very thirsty) turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-3 gasoline engine. In its place is a turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine, much like the one in the GS3 Emzoom.

The Chinese model gets 184 PS and 290 Nm of torque, which are coursed through the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Launch control

Perhaps an ode to the Coolray’s sporting potential is the addition of launch control.

When activated, Geely claims the 2024 model can do 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds. This is a figure that may be highly appreciated by people like GJ Caparros, who is one of the few current-generation Coolray owners in the Philippines who competes in sanctioned drag racing.

Do you think the 2024 Geely Coolray would make waves once more, if it is brought to the Philippines?
