No more extended waiting times as Isuzu has revealed its EVision Cycle Concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. It's a battery-swapping station for electric trucks that provides convenience in use.
It only takes minutes for the station to swap out the battery packs and put in a fresh set. The station does the heavy lifting by charging these battery packs to be ready for the next person to use.
The fundamental goal of the prototype station is to allow the continuous use of electric trucks without them having to be parked for long periods while they charge, which increases operation costs. Ensuring that the trucks get a fresh set of batteries as quickly as possible lets them get back into rotation and allows the business owner to utilize them more efficiently.
Isuzu says the battery packs can be removed and replaced in less than two minutes and help reduce the burden on the electric power grid, which has become vital in the age of electrification.
As the truck manufacturer moves forward with its goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company in the next few years, it aims to make a practical battery-swapping system. However, for it to work properly there has to be a demand for electric trucks.
Battery swapping isn’t a new concept, as it is already being done in other countries, which allows the EV user to keep on the move without having to wait for their batteries to charge. It also offers them the same convenience as driving an internal combustion engine vehicle, which only takes a few minutes to refuel.
Isuzu could be on to something with the battery swapping station, as trucks still play a vital role in the economies of all countries. They haul cargo to and from locations, bringing vital goods to wherever they are needed.
