After previewing the BYD Atto 3 at the Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, the new electric vehicle has officially made its debut, entering the local market with two variants. The new model is the brand’s latest entry into the electric vehicle market, with a stylish design, decent power, and many attractive features.
The Atto 3 is about the size of a typical compact crossover, measuring 4,455mm long, 1,875mm wide, and 1,615mm tall. It also has a wheelbase of 2,720mm and a minimum ground clearance of 150mm. It is in contention against the Toyota Corolla Cross, which is only 5mm longer than the fully electric crossover.
It has a sleek design that fits in with the modern aesthetics that most fully electric vehicles bring to the market, such as its grille-less front fascia and sharp LED headlights. Aside from this, it also gets a set of 17 with 215/55 series tires or 18-inch alloy wheels with 215/60 series tires, depending on the variant.
It also has the option for a panoramic sunroof, only available in its Premium variant. As for the rear, it comes with full-width LED tail lights that are accented by a thin metal trim. Like many other crossovers, the Atto 3 also sports black body cladding.
One of the first things you will notice when you enter the cabin of the BYD Atto 3 is its unique wavy interior. While it comes with premium and soft-touch materials, the design concept draws you in with its mix of blue and cream interior colors with red accent stitching on the seats. It gives the vehicle a more colorful interior than its EV and internal combustion engine rivals.
As for technology, the Atto 3 has a 12.8-inch infotainment system that can be oriented in either a landscape or portrait-style layout. The display also serves as a control panel for air conditioning controls and other in-car functions. It also has modern connectivity features such as Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. However, unlike its massive infotainment system, the digital instrument cluster resides on a smaller 5-inch screen behind the steering wheel. Regardless of its size, it is still easy to read.
The BYD Atto 3 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that drives the front wheels of the electric crossover. It generates 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. Depending on your variant, the Atto 3 will come with a 49.92 kWh or a 60.48 kWh battery pack. This gives the lower model driving around 410 kilometers, while the top-spec model gets 480 kilometers worth of range.
Charging the crossover is easy, as it can be done with either a 2.3kW portable wall charger you can plug into any household socket or a free CCS2 (Type II) wall 7kW charger that comes with the purchase of the vehicle. As for charging times, you are looking at around 12 hours for the 2.3 kW charger and about 5 hours for the 7kW charger. The Atto also has fast charging capabilities, with the Dynamic variant able to support 70kW of DC charging, while the Premium model can support up to 80kW.
The BYD Atto 3 is no slouch regarding safety features as it has several intelligent driver aids. It has adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. However, these features are only available in the Premium model, as the Dynamic variant gets the standard range of features, which includes multiple airbags, ABS, traction control, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
However, we must note that the BYD Atto 3 does not come with a spare tire. Instead, it has a tire repair kit and a portable air pump.
