The upcoming 2024 Kia EV5 was leaked in China before its official global debut on August 25, 2023.
According to reports from Car News China, images of the Kia Sportage-sized electric SUV were leaked by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for homologation purposes. These photos give us a first look at the brand’s latest electric vehicle (EV) and the full production version of the Concept EV5.
Concept car looks
The leaked photos reveal that the Kia EV5 retains the same styling design as its concept version, shown in March 2023. It carries a similar styling to the Kia EV9 with a unique front end and LED lighting elements that follow a specific pattern.
It has a smooth yet broad front, black body cladding, and a silver front chin. It also rides on EV-like wheels with a triangular accent in the middle.
On the side, the EV has clean body lines with a slight kink toward the back of the car near the C-pillar.
The SUV has C-shaped LED taillights at the back that meet in the middle just above the Kia logo. Aside from this, the electric SUV also gets a unique bumper multi-layer bumper design that comes with a silver accent for its lower section and diffuser.
Rumored specs
According to Car News China, the Kia EV5 will be powered by a 215 horsepower electric motor with 310 Nm of torque, with power being sent exclusively to the rear wheels. The EV5 will also have a capped top speed of 185km/h.
The lithium iron phosphate battery pack is sourced from BYD and is reported to have a capacity of around 82kWh. The battery pack gives the vehicle an estimated driving range of about 600km.
As for its chassis, the electric EV uses the brand’s 800-volt E-GMP platform that it shares with the Kia EV6 and the Kia EV9.
The Kia EV5 measures 4615mm long, 1875mm wide, and 1715 tall. It also has a wheelbase of 2,750mm. Compared to its closest sibling, the current generation Kia Sportage, it is 45mm shorter, 10mm wider, and 55mm higher.
Kia is expected to debut the Kia EV5 at the Chengdu Motor Show on August 25.
Should Kia Philippines bring this in as part of AC Motors' and the Ayala Corporation's green thrust?
