The Mazda 2 is one of the brand’s older models still available in the global market.
It's already in its 9th year of production, way past the prime age for a replacement. In car years, it should have been at the end of its succeeding generation by now.
The nameplate already received a facelift in 2019 in which the model got a sleeker front and rear design and the inclusion of G-Vectoring Plus (GVC Plus).
However, instead of launching a replacement, it appears that Mazda wants this B-segment hatchback to live forever longer.
The Mazda Japan website has already announced that the facelifted 2023 Mazda 2 will become available by the end of March in Japan, and it is now taking orders and reservations.
A more aggressive look?
For the facelift, the website has officially confirmed earlier rumors that the new Mazda 2 will now have two front facias available.
The first is a sportier look for the vehicle with a new black-finish grille, a red emblem on the upper right corner, and a revised bumper design.
The second is a cleaner, more EV-like look that removes the grille and replaces it with a plastic filler that matches the body color. Think of the Mini's spunky EV, and you'll get the drift.
The website also reveals that the rest of the updated Mazda 2 lineup will look similar to the current model in their design but with 12 body color options and 15 styling combinations available for the front grille, wheels, and roof. Mazda will sell vinyl wraps and graphics to achieve the customization efforts of its customers.
No changes in power
The Mazda 2 will still carry the same gasoline and diesel engine options depending on the market.
If the facelifted Mazda 2 were to come to the Philippines, it would still likely be powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine that pushes out 115 PS and 148 Nm of torque with a six-speed automatic at the ready.
Minimal interior changes?
The Mazda Japan website also lists a few interior styling upgrades, which include Leather/Lux Suede®, cross (black) with faux carbon fiber trims, cross (black) with beige trims, and its Grand Luxe (Graige) finish.
Six-way power seats are also available for the Japanese market, along with heating functions for both the seats and the steering wheel.
A new leather seat material is also available for the Mazda 2 with a citrus accent.
Mazda Philippines has yet to release any official announcement concerning if it will bring in this new facelifted Mazda 2 model.
What do you think? Does the new Mazda 2 look good in its latest facelifted form?
