According to Japan’s BestCarWeb, the next-generation Lexus IS will be a pure-electric (EV) model. It will reportedly make its debut in 2025.
Recall that late last year, Toyota announced its range of EV models to be launched by 2030, which includes Lexus’ EV models. Amongst them is the Lexus Electrified Sedan and BestCarWeb believes that it is the basis for the next-generation Lexus IS.
Further details are scarce and entirely speculative, but BestCarWeb claims that the next-generation Lexus IS will carry on the front-engine rear-wheel drive (FR) tradition with the option of AWD, plus a range of power outputs and driving range.
Currently, Lexus has only one EV model – the UX 300e, which is an EV variant of the regular combustion-engine UX.
Back to the Lexus IS, the third-generation model was introduced in Malaysia back in 2013, followed by the updated turbocharged variants in 2015. It received its final update in 2017 before getting discontinued.
The latest-generation Lexus IS made its global debut in 2020 and has found its way to several ASEAN countries like Singapore and Thailand.
Could the Lexus IS make a comeback as an EV? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.
