The 5008 is an SUV entry from French automaker Peugeot, which was formerly categorized as an MPV. There are several changes from its looks down to its road performance, and 2022 has become more exciting as the 5008 comes with distinct features and functionalities that are avant-garde to the industry.
Price and Colors
The 2022 Peugeot 5008 1.6L THP Allure Automatic Transmission is priced at Php2,260,000 and is available in four colors in the Philippines, Amazonite Grey, Nera Black, Pearlescent White, and the Emerald Crystal. However, if you are looking for lively colors like yellow, orange, and red, those are not available at the moment, as Peugeot has an elegant and luxurious approach to the 5008.
Powertrain System
It carries a responsive 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbo high-pressure gasoline-powered engine, which makes 165 horsepower and 240-Newton meters of torque maximum power mated to a six-speed automatic transmission in a front-wheel drivetrain configuration, with five grip modes such as Normal, OFF, Sand, ESP, Mud, and Snow.
It comes with MacPherson struts and a beam axle suspension setup which gives an optimal level of comfort to its passengers.
Exterior Design
Peugeot designed 2022 5008 with a very distinct and tasteful exterior look that will surely stand out among its competitors. Its hood comes with two creases that lie down towards the aggressive-looking LED headlamps. Below the headlamps are LED daytime running lights that look like the sharp fangs of a venomous snake which gives it a prey vibe appeal. At the center of the front fascia, a massive frameless radiator grille is present with the Peugeot badge in the middle and a 5008 badge on top. Down below, the front bumper comes with a pointed chrome accent bar that runs across the width of the car. The overall face profile of the 5008 has a distinct style that can be easily recognizable on the road.
Even though Peugeot has decided to change the classification of the 5008 from MPV to SUV, its ground clearance is a bit lower than usual SUV models in the market, measuring 191 millimeters. Design-wise, the side profile of the 5008 comes with several chrome accents. The windows are surrounded by chrome touches, as well as the side mirrors, the side part of the hood, down at the bottom part of the doors, and up for the roof rails. For the tires, it got 18-inch two-toned rims covered in Continental tires.
Heading over the rear of the 5008, it is noticeable that the design language from its face runs towards the back, as it is also presented with a distinct style. On top is a spoiler with a brake light that shades part of the wide rear windshield with a visibility wiper. On each side below the windshield are embossed LED rear lights with sequential turn lights. It also has a strong character line below the spelled Peugeot with its logo, which runs across the width of the car. The step board is metal, and there are two fake exhaust vents below.
Interior Design
If the exterior of the 5008 has a very impressive design, its interior is a lot more impressive and interesting. Not only that it is premium-looking, but it gives a game-on vibe, especially to the driver. The steering wheel is small, making it easy for the driver to make a turn, and is shaped with a flat top and flat bottom. It also comes with buttons to easily control the infotainment system and driving assistance features. Behind the steering wheel is a 12-inch information display that is positioned on top of the dashboard closer to eye level than usual.
At the center, the infotainment system comes in an impressively responsive 10-inch touchscreen that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Below the infotainment display is chrome-finished functionality buttons that look like what you see in Lamborghini cars. The whole cockpit is covered with soft leather with chrome accents and plastic materials, which is easier to maintain than piano black.
The center armrest in front has a wine holder inside; cup/bottle holders are also found around the whole cabin. The 5008 also comes with a panoramic sunroof which is slightly tinted and has ambient light surrounding it. Not only on the ceiling but there are also ambient lights throughout the entire cabin, which look good at night.
Driving the 5008 will give you the utmost riding comfort when you take it off-road as its seats are well-bolstered. The second-row seats are as comfortable as the first-row seats, and the legroom and headroom space are generous enough to sit tall people. Unlike the driver’s seat, the second-row seats are manually-adjustable to allow more legroom space for the third-row passengers. There is also no floor tunnel at the center in the second row, which is good news for the passenger in the middle.
On the other hand, the third-row seats are removable, not just to allow more cargo space but also to use the seats as camping chairs, which is impressively thought about by Peugeot. Talking about the cargo space, the tailgate opens automatically when you kick forward towards the sensor at the bottom.
Safety and Security
Apart from the standard safety and security features like airbags, seat belts, seat belt warning, engine check warning, door ajar warning, tire pressure monitor, rear camera, ABS with EBD, front and side impact beams, and park assist, the 5008 also comes with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features. This includes active blind spot detection, active lane-keep assistance, and advanced driver attention warning. It also comes with hill assist grip control, advanced grip control, and front and rear parking sensors. It also has security features, including anti-theft device, a central locking system, power door locks, and an engine immobilizer.
