The Toyota Corolla Cross has just been updated in its home market of Japan. The 5-seater crossover gets a refreshed look thanks to its new bumper and grille combination, along with a new set of alloy wheels.
However, Toyota didn’t just stop there as it has also given it a slight increase in power as it has a new 2.0-liter under the hood. It now comes with a Dynamic Force M20A-FKS engine, which is present in the non-hybrid version of the crossover.
It is the same engine used in many other Toyota and Lexus vehicles that produce around 170 horsepower and 202 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a Direct Shift CVT, with the new engine reportedly getting around 16.6 km per liter in fuel economy.
Meanwhile, the hybrid version of the Corolla Cross carries over its 1.8-liter 2ZR-FXE powerplant that is mated to a hybrid system but now comes with dual electric motors available. Toyota has yet to reveal the total system output of the hybrid, but the official Japanese website says that the crossover can get around 26.4 km/L for its 2WD and 24.5 km/L in its E-Four (AWD) configuration.
The interior also gets a minor upgrade as the top-spec model receives a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster. In contrast, the lower models get a 7-inch display with a 10.5-inch Display Audio Plus infotainment screen that supports Wi-Fi connectivity.
Aside from this, the Japanese-spec Corolla Cross also gets upgrades to its Toyota Safety Sense package, where it now includes Proactive Driving Assist, which helps control the car automatically in turning and braking situations. The pre-collision prevention system has also been upgraded. It can detect approaching cars while crossing an intersection. It can also detect pedestrians.
It is still being determined if Toyota Motor Philippines will bring the facelifted model into the local market.
