GAC Motor Philippines currently has six operational dealerships in the country.
However, for 2023 the automaker wants to expand this number to 15, with new facilities set to open in E. Rodriguez Sr. Ave, Manila Bay, Lipa City, Quezon Ave, Cainta, Makati, BGC, and Batangas.
The automaker also says it will soon release exciting promos that will make buying and owning a GAC vehicle more affordable and enticing.
New vehicles to come
GAC Motor Philippines brand head Jun Cajayon revealed at the event that they would launch two new vehicles for 2023 but did not specify any model names.
We assume that one of those vehicles will be the new GAC GS3, as a slide from his presentation stated that the nameplate will be one of the key models sold here in the Philippines.
If we look at other markets, the specifications of the GAC GS3 Power, for example, are enticing. It has a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 168 PS and 265 Nm of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
It also comes with a striking design language that is more angular than before. It emphasizes its sharp lines, muscular curves, and aggressive stance thanks to its large alloy wheels.
A future with hybrids and EVs?
At the launch event, we also quickly interviewed the GAC Motor Philippines brand head Jun Cajayon about the future of the brand in the country regarding hybrid or electric vehicles.
While he did not answer with any specific models, Cajayon stated that “new energy vehicles are on the table for the latter half of 2023.” When asked about electric vehicles specifically, he said that “an EV model could be launched in 2024.”
This means that a hybrid model could be launched sometime latter half of 2023, with an electric vehicle model coming to the Philippines sometime in 2024.
Could the GAC Aion Y come to the Philippines?
If you check the GAC Motor international website, you will see that the brand sells only one new energy or electric vehicle.
This comes in the form of the GAC Aion Y, which could be the model that the brand brings to the Philippines in 2024.
The Aion Y is an electric vehicle produced by GAC since 2021. It has a single electric motor that produces between 136 to 184 PS depending on the chosen variant. Depending on the model, it also has a maximum range of between 460 to 600 kilometers.
Things are looking to be exciting for GAC Motor Philippines with its plans for expansion in 2023.
