Jeep Philippines has released a teaser on its Facebook page for an upcoming sport-utility vehicle (SUV) that will launch in the Philippines soon.

The teaser photo shows little, as the launch date needed to be established in the image. However, what it does show is the grille of the upcoming vehicle.

We had to dig deep into the global Jeep lineup to find a model with a similar design to what was shown until we laid our eyes on the 2023 Jeep Commander/Meridian.

Based on the press photos available for the vehicle, the grille fits the teaser image, especially for its variants available in the Latin America and Indian markets. 

The 2023 Jeep Commander/Meridian is based on the second-generation Jeep Compass. The new SUV is expected to replace the Jeep Grand Commander in the Philippines and will be positioned in the seven-seater crossover segment. 

Turbo engines

We aren’t sure yet about the vehicle’s final specifications once it hits the Philippine market.

However, based on the information available, the 2023 Jeep Commander/Meridian has two engine options: a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine that pushes out 170 PS and 380 Nm of torque and a 1.3-liter inline-4 gasoline engine that produces 185 PS and 270 Nm of torque.

The former gets a nine-speed automatic and a six-speed manual gearbox, while the latter only receives a six-speed automatic. 

The Jeep Commander/Meridian is also available as a 4x4 or 4x2 based on information from the Indian and Latin American markets.

As for the rest of its feature list, we expect to see a large infotainment system inside the vehicle with Apple CarPlay and Android capabilities and other options such as adaptive cruise and much more. 

For now, it's a waiting game to see what Jeep Philippines will have in store for its upcoming SUV.
