Imagine being a car club that is so well-known that a carmaker produces special-edition models to commemorate your silver anniversary.
Miata Club Philippines (MCP), which is the oldest single-make car club in the country, got just that during the official turnover of the first batch of the Mazda MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition on October 2022.
Mazda Philippines president Steven Tan led the ceremony of eight units at the brand's Center of Excellence facility in Cabuyao, Laguna.
"It is truly heart-warming to see how the love of one car, the MX-5, has brought many people together," Tan said.
"It's not just a testament to the timelessness of the MX-5's qualities, but today, we also see the continued love and passion the Miata Club of the Philippines has shown," he added. "Truly, they have helped cement the MX-5 as a cultural icon."
Car 001 went to Eddie Salonga, the founding president of MCP.
The MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition was unveiled at the 8th Philippine International Motor Show on September 2022.
Mazda Philippines said in a press statement that the car celebrates its "special relationship" with MCP, which was founded in 1997 and now has 150 members.
Exclusive paintwork
The MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition stands out from other MX-5s by sporting exclusive Platinum Quartz Metallic with a Navy Blue soft top.
The roadster also features Navy Blue accents on the side mirrors and roll hoops, along with Satin Silver 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the limited-run MX-5 includes a special Mazda Connect Commander knob and a serial number plate, both finished in Sterling Silver.
Every owner is also given a commemorative car cover and an MCP 25th Anniversary photo book.
As with all other 2023 MX-5s, the MCP model is powered by a 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 producing 184PS and 205 Nm of torque. This is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.
It also comes with the recently introduced Kinetic Posture Control system, which applies a very small amount of braking force to the inner rear wheel during hard cornering.
Mazda Philippines said this helps suppress excess body roll for more stability in high-speed turns.
Limited production run
The Japanese carmaker said the MX-5 MCP 25th Anniversary Edition will only be produced for one year, with final deliveries slated for Sept. 15, 2023.
The company added that all authorized Mazda dealerships nationwide are still taking orders for this commemorative roadster.
