MIAS 2023 debut? Great Wall Motors Philippines may bring in hybrid vehicles 01

Great Wall Motors (GWM) Philippines looks to enter the local market with a bang, as the automaker has already released a teaser image for something unique.

While it isn’t officially known what model they are teasing, the leaves and windmills on the graphic on the company's official Facebook page suggest that they are planning to bring hybrid cars into the country.

We suspect these hybrid vehicles will be under the Haval sub-brand of GWM. Reports have indicated that the Haval Jolion and Haval H6 could enter the market soon.

Furthermore, the GWM booth was spotted on the final floor plan of the Manila International Auto Show, indicating the brand’s intent to launch in the local market officially.

The Haval Jolion and Haval H6 are present in other markets, such as South Africa and Australia, with hybrid and even plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions. These variants could launch with the brand once it officially enters the market.

What power figures to expect from the Jolion and H6 hybrids

The following specifications are based on the spec sheet available for these models in the Australian market.

Note that these specs may change once they enter the Philippines.

The standard version of the Haval Jolion is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 150 PS and 220 Nm of torque mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The vehicle is available with a front-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive drivetrain.

The hybrid version of the Haval Jolion is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline motor that is mated to a hybrid system. It produces 243 PS and 530 Nm of torque with a dedicated hybrid transmission.

If launched in the Philippines, it could be the most powerful crossover SUV available outside of premium or luxury vehicles.

The standard Haval H6, on the other hand, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. It has a 7-speed DCT to send power to the front wheels.

On the other hand, its hybrid variant has a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with an electric motor and 2-speed transmission making up its hybrid system. The gasoline motor produces 150 PS, while the electric motor makes 176 PS, producing a total system output of 243 PS.

The gasoline engine makes 230 Nm by itself for the torque figures, with the electric motor producing 300 Nm on its own. Together the total system torque output hits 530 Nm of torque.

It still needs to be determined what the feature set of these vehicles will be once they enter the local market, as a lot can change before launch.

What is clear is that these hybrid vehicles will be an exciting addition to the booming hybrid market in the Philippines.

Which of these Chinese crossovers would you pick?
