In stark contrast to what's available in the Philippine market, Volkswagen of America debuted the new Atlas and Altas Cross at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, featuring fresh facelifts, more technology, and upgraded powertrain options.

Fresh new look

The changes to the new Atlas begin at the front with its larger LED headlights, unique mesh grille, and new black accents. It also has a new light bar that stretches across the hood of the SUV just above its illuminated Volkswagen Logo.

Aside from this, the Volkswagen SUV also gets a more prominent roof spoiler and a new rear light bar that scratches across the trunk lid. The new lighting feature is available in all vehicle variants except for the base trim.

The wheel designs have also been updated with sizes ranging from 18 to 20 inches. A sporty R-Line package is also available with the new Atlas and Atlas Cross that grant you 21-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The Atlas R-Line also gets unique badging and gloss black accents around the exterior.

Refreshed interior

On the inside, the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas gets more premium materials for its cabin, with the ash and center console opting for a higher-quality leatherette instead of hard plastic. The same can be said for its door panels which use new materials for the front and rear.

The SUV also gets a 12-inch “floating” infotainment system that replaces the old 10.3-inch unit. A similarly sized 10.3-inch instrument cluster is also available in the vehicle.  Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for the Atlas and all its variants.

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas gets VW's IQ.Drive-driver assistance technology is standard for all variants. This safety suite includes lane centering, lane-keep assist, and automatic braking. Adaptive cruise control is still an add-on.

No more V6 engine

The Atlas drops its VR6 engine, which is now replaced by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 16-valve engine that produces 273 PS and 370 Nm of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This eight-speed gearbox is the standard vehicle transmission regardless of whether it comes in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The Volkswagen Atlas is expected to officially hit dealership floors later this year with pricing being announced soon.

Do you think we should see more of these global models offered by Volkswagen Philippines?
