Getting and settling a citation ticket for a traffic violation in Metro Manila should now be much less complicated.
Metro Manila LGUs finally implemented the unified ticketing system on May 2, 2023. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Task Force Special Operations head Bong Nebrija posted a photo of the top violations and their corresponding fines on Facebook.
MMDA Resolution No. 23-02 “will harmonize the existing national and local laws on traffic enforcement to establish effective transport and traffic management in Metro Manila.”
The MMDA said the system, which was supposed to be fully implemented on March 2023, addresses challenges in apprehensions and fines in the different cities in Metro Manila, along with license and plate violations.
Under the old system, each Metro Manila local government unit had its own set of traffic rules and fines, along with its payment centers.
The old scheme has long been criticized because of the confusion and the hassle it brought to motorists, who may be compliant in one jurisdiction and non-compliant in another.
We wonder what the government will do about kotong cops (law enforcers who take bribes)?
