The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI) is set to bring back a familiar nameplate under Chevrolet Philippines in the form of the 2024 Chevrolet Trax.
The "Golden Bowtie" brand has already released a teaser for the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) on its Facebook page, marking its eventual return to the market.
It also indicates that TCCCI could be slowly shifting its resources back into Chevrolet Philippines as SAIC Motor Ph is set to take over MG Philippines, which is currently under TCCCI’s distributorship.
Only a little is known about the upcoming 2024 Chevrolet Trax, but two versions are available globally.
The first is the Seeker, which is available in China, and the other is the Trax. These are exactly the same cars, just with different names and localized specifications.
The teaser video released by Chevrolet Philippines does give us a few clues as it showcases the top-of-the-line RS trim of the Trax.
The few short clips also reveal that the local version may look like the American version of the SUV.
What to expect?
Expect a sleeker, bigger and more mature Chevrolet Trax, as the Golden Bowtie brand has given it a more prominent grille, thin LED daytime running lights (DRL) and LED headlights that sit just below the DRLs.
At the rear, the Trax gets sharp wraparound taillights and a new tailgate. It also gets a new set of wheels, which could be either 17- or 18-inch alloys.
Regarding interior and tech features, the new SUV could come to the local with an upscale interior with digital displays for the instrument panel and an 8- or 11-inch infotainment system, depending on the variant.
Features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are set to become standard for the upcoming car, with advanced driver assistance systems also set to be available.
As for power, the new Chevrolet Trax is expected to arrive with a 1.2-liter turbocharged motor that produces 139 PS and 219 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
All grown up
In terms of measurements, the new Trax is 4540 mm long, 1825 mm wide, 1560 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2700 mm.
Compared to its locally available Chevrolet Tracker sibling, it is 270 mm longer, 34 mm wider, and has a 130 mm wheelbase. Something to note is that the Trax is shorter than the Tracker in height by about 60 mm.
In the SUV pecking order, the Chevrolet Trax will likely sit above its sibling, the Tracker, and right below the Trailblazer.
Will the new Chevrolet Trax be a hit for Chevrolet Philippines?
