Following the launch of the CS55 Plus on November 2022, Changan Philippines has debuted its Uni line of crossovers.
Changan Motor Philippines Inc. (CMPI) launched the compact Uni-T and the midsize Uni-K sport-utility vehicles (SUV) at the inauguration of the brand’s new headquarters on Dec. 2, 2022.
The two SUVs use Changan’s “Vision V” design language, which includes elements like large trapezoidal front grills, coupe-like beltlines, pop-out door handles, and prominent headlights.
Edgy Uni-T looks
The smaller Uni-T is the more aggressive-looking of the two, especially with sharp headlights that flow into the lower side intakes.
It also comes with a giant panoramic moonroof that diverges into a V-shape at the rear to accommodate the split rear tailgate spoiler.
The interior is standard-fare for a Changan, but a unique feature of the Uni-T is the Auto Parking Assist, which can automatically accomplish a reverse parking maneuver.
It also comes with a six-speaker Sony sound system.
The Uni-T is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine producing 179 PS and 300 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Very plush Uni-K
Meanwhile, the Uni-K has a more subdued design that still incorporates cool features like the split tailgate spoiler, 21-inch alloy wheels, and four big tailpipes.
It also has an electric tailgate with a sensor under the rear bumper. All you need to do is wave your foot down there, and the tailgate opens, which is helpful when carrying heavy loads.
Audiophiles will also enjoy the Uni-K’s 12-speaker Sony sound system.
The midsize crossover also comes with what Changan calls a “3+1” cluster that aligns the gauges and the touchscreen infotainment system in one clean row.
The LCD digital gauge cluster has three parts:
-
The left section displays tire pressure and door conditions
-
The middle section shows vehicle speed, augmented reality real-view navigation, multimedia interface, and vehicle status
-
The right section includes a digital rear-view mirror, tachometer, and fuel gauge
Under its massive hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine pumping out 232 PS and 390 Nm.
This is coursed through an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an electronic center differential with all-wheel drive.
Full active safety suite
Both Changan Uni crossovers have voice control to handle functions like opening or closing the windows, operating the radio and the automatic air conditioner, and making or receiving calls.
The Uni-T and Uni-K also have a vast array of active safety features, such as:
-
Blind Spot Detection Warning (BSDW) that triggers visual and audio alerts for rear side warning, door opening, and lateral warnings
-
Lane Keeping Assist
-
Automated Emergency Braking
-
Integrated Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist
-
Electronic Stability Control
-
Lane Departure Warning
-
Front Collision Warning
-
Rear Cross Traffic Alert
CMPI said both models are available for indent orders which involve a waiting time of a few months for the units to arrive. The Uni-T is ₱1,679,000, while the Uni-K is ₱2,719,000.
With Changan rolling out new models left and right, do you think the brand can wage war with the likes of Geely and MG?
