There’s another reason for scooter fans to look forward to the Makina Moto show this weekend. Suzuki Philippines (SPH) will finally be launching the Burgman Street 125 EX on April 14th, so you better be at the SMX Convention Center at 12 noon.
The Burgman Street 125 EX is an updated version of the widely-popular Burgman Street 125. To be clear, Suzuki stated that the current Bergman Street would remain available in the market even with the arrival of the EX version. So, what’s the difference between the two?
Bigger rear wheel

Yes! The Burgman Street 125 EX has 12-inch wheels, front and rear. This version might be more palatable to those riders who are a bit too “size conscious” of the current Burgman Street’s 10-inch rear wheel. Just note that both Burgmans share the same engine, and the bigger wheel might adversely affect acceleration performance. Well, we will know once we get some saddle time on it after its launch.
Longer wheelbase
The Burgman Street 125 EX has a wheelbase of 1290 mm, which is a tad longer than the current Burgman Street’s 1265 mm. The upside is better cruising stability and a more spacious floorboard that doubles as a cargo bed. Will it still be as nimble? We’ll see.
Engine Auto Stop-Start (EASS)
This feature is a welcome addition to the Burgman Street 125 EX as it helps save fuel and reduce carbon emissions. The EASS automatically shuts off the engine at stoplights to reduce unnecessary fuel burning. Just open the throttle, and the engine fires up just as quickly. Suzuki Global rated the Burgman Street 125 EX at 52.6 km/L, surprisingly lower than the 53.5 km/L of the current Burgman. It must result from the bigger rear wheel and the additional 2 kilograms in weight.
Indeed, the Burgman Street 125 EX will have a slightly higher price tag than the ₱82,400 of the current version. Considering its budget-conscious market segment, how much is a reasonable price for the Burgman Street 125 EX?
