The week-long jeepney strike was expected to cripple public transportation in key areas of the country. Yet, strike or no strike, taking the jeepney to work is already brutal as it is, especially during rush hour.
Now, you either wait in line at jeepney terminals or try to elbow your way into a passing jeepney along its route. But what if you want to take charge of your commuting destiny?
It would be best if you considered these budget-friendly motorcycle options, then. Investing in these bikes could be more cost-effective in the long run compared to the average daily fare you spend, not to mention the time lost waiting to get a ride.
TVS XL100 - ₱31,990
Yep, it looks like a ‘70s moped and runs like one with its automatic transmission and slow acceleration. It gets the job done, nonetheless. While the modest 99.7 cc engine produces only 3.2 kW and 6.5 Nm, this is marketed by TVS as a cargo hauler. Amazingly, the XL100 has seating for two. So if you’re not in a hurry to get somewhere as long as you get there, this bike is for you.
Euro Motor Sport E 110 - ₱38,800
This one has a 110 cc air-cooled engine mated to a 4-speed auto-clutch transmission. The “Sport” in its name is a misnomer, though, with only 5.2 kW and 7 Nm to brag about. You might want to take it easy on the throttle with this one, as you only get drum brakes for both front and rear.
Skygo Duke - ₱41,500
Another 110-cc underbone on the list is the Skygo Duke. For its slightly higher price tag, you get a two-port front disc brake, and it also boasts an internal engine balancer to minimize vibration during operation.
KYMCO Visa R - ₱43,900
The KYMCO Visa R is an entry-level offering from KYMCO with a decent amount of grunt, considering it only has a 107 cc engine. You get 4.8 kW and 7.4 Nm on tap, and it is already fitted with a top box compatible rear carrier. For the price, you get spoke-wheels for this one, but you can add ₱3,000 more for the alloy-wheel version.
Honda Wave Alpha - ₱47,700
The Wave Alpha has a 109.16 cc engine but is the most powerful, boasting a maximum output of 6.09 kW and 8.46 Nm. However, it is the priciest, too, as the winged logo on the panel comes at a premium.
So, does investing in one of these bikes make financial sense to you? Do the math. Just remember, time lost can never be recovered.
