A Nitpicker’s Guide to the Toyota Fortuner

The Toyota Fortuner is a great vehicle that’s why it’s one of the fastest and best selling PPV in the Philippine Market. For this Nitpicker’s Guide, it will be a very short nitpicking because the Fortuner is all-around class.

Handling

Driving a car with the size of the Fortuner for the first time makes one feel that the car is too big for you. It takes some getting used to for a few days and handling is quite different than driving a smaller car, even a crossover. So, you might expect the Fortuner to be quite a little heavy on the steering, especially with those huge tires. A little dipping and diving when accelerating and braking, as well, can be felt. Plus, body rolls when turning is no exception. Don’t worry, it’s not too much, and the Fortuner is very much drivable even in different conditions. After a small while, all is well.

360 Camera

The G variant is the only variant of the Fortuner not to have the 360 camera. All others, the A, Q and of course the LTD has it, and with regards to driving and maneuvering, the 360 camera is most useful. The G variant prospective buyers need not have to worry because it is equipped with front and rear proximity sensors and a rear-view backing camera. The nitpicking, however, goes to the 360 camera. There are certain reports which say that the 360 camera sometimes glitch up and has problems while working or does not work at times. If this happens, don’t worry because Toyota has a warranty period so better have this issue checked immediately.

Power to Fuel Efficiency Trade Off

The more powerful LTD variant with its 4x4 drive has less fuel efficiency than the 4x2 Q variant with the same engine specs and the A and G variant with a less powerful engine. Of course, this is expected because the difference in engine in number of wheels driving is a factor for fuel economy. It’s not really a nitpicking but a reminder to everyone that you should pick the right Toyota Fortuner variant for your liking and purpose.  If you want a fuel efficient PPV which can hold 7 passengers, choose the G. If you have more money to spend, why not try the A variant. The Q can give the right balance of power and fuel efficiency, but the LTD is the only one with 4x4. Also, I almost forgot to mention that the G variant has an option to have Manual Transmission while the rest has a 6-speed Automatic Transmission. So, it’s just a matter of choosing which. Hey, you can also blow your dough on the GR-S variant!

All in all, not too much to nitpick, as all pros are hard to beat by the cons. The Toyota Fortuner is a winning choice for a PPV, and starting at PhP 1.7 million for the G variant MT, up to the LTD variant 4x4 AT at PhP 2.45 million (or the GR-S at PhP 2.5 million), you can choose the right Fortuner for you.
